Protecting Water Dogs

Dogs, unlike people, are natural swimmers.  While some dogs don’t like the water as much as others, swimming is in their genes.  But when traveling on a boat or watercraft, or spending a long time at the beach, it’s important for dogs to be protected in the water.  Dogs become tired much faster than people, and depending on the circumstances, some can fail to realize that they’re tired when swimming in the water.  This is dangerous because a dog can run out to fetch a ball, and then be in danger of drowning because they’re too tired and they don’t realize it, necessitating the use of a dog life jacket.  There are dog life jackets designed to fit dogs of all different sizes, and the jackets can assist in keeping them afloat.  Swimming is an exhausting activity, and a life jacket will ensure the dog remains safe in the water.

When traveling on a boat, it’s also best to have the dog wear a life jacket, as it’s possible the dog could hit their head on something hard as they fell into the water, or become sucked into a wave or wake if they fell over.

Traveling with your dog can be a wonderful experience, but there are things to consider if you want to make each outing a success.  Always have secure seating for your dog to prevent injury.  The Cruising Companion Houndstooth Car Harnesses provides a safe way to travel and has padded, vest-style restraints that evenly distribute pressure upon braking to keep pets comfortably secure.  This is a quick, easy, and fashionable way to keep dogs secure in the car.  The adjustable vest-style harness is cushioned for comfort and Universal seat belt clip fits most vehicles.  You can adjust the straps at the top and back of the harness to ensure a comfortable fit around your pet’s neck.  A dog booster seat or a cruising companion car harness works great in the car and the durable material can protect your dog in case of an accident.

Enjoy traveling with your dog and make safety an important part of your travels.  You can acclimate your dog and cat to car travel by taking them on multiple short trips.  If your dog gets car sick, don’t feed them for one to two hours before leaving, especially for trips lasting more than 30 minutes.
