Toby celebrates thanksgiving with her new sweater from DoggiesAccessories.  I like having my picture taken but my two brothers are not as cooperative and did not want their picture taken although they like their new sweaters.

A dog sweater not only protects from the weather when outside but also add to the fun of pet and family both indoors and outside.  Cute dog apparel often causes complete strangers to ask questions about your dog and gives you the opportunity to meet many new friends

dog slippers

When it’s bedtime at your house, your dog should be as comfortable and prepared for a restful respite as their master.  Dog pajamas, dog slippers, and dog nightgowns are great for helping your pup stay warm and feel included.  Dog slippers will prevent those occasional dirty footprints on your bedding, while dog pajamas will ensure that your pup can sleep next to you and keep their fur contained within their clothing and not in your sheets.  In addition, your dainty lady will look so cute that you’ll float right to sleep with her image prancing through your dreams.

Dog sleepwear is available at various online websites, in some clothing stores, or if you’re feeling bold, you can try your hand at making your own!

Rubber dog toysIf your dog is constantly finding things in the house to chew on, whether it’s shoes, furniture, or clothing, it’s a good idea to find them a more appropriate alternative.  Rubber dog toys will deter chewing on other objects, and also strengthen your canine’s teeth and improve overall dental health.  If your pup still finds objects to chew on, there are a number of preventative techniques you can try.  One common solution is to purchase one of the sour tasting sprays designed to deter dogs from chewing on specific objects in the home.  If that doesn’t work, you can also try using a squirt gun or a sharp sound whenever the dog starts to chew that will let them know what they’re doing is wrong.

In some cases dogs will be immune to all methods of deterrence, and at that point it’s wise to just keep important objects out of reach of their mouths and cut your losses.

Training Puppies to Walk

leather dog lead

Typically when puppies first start walking with their owners they will drift all over the sidewalk, smell everything, and also want to chew on the leash.  In order to build good walking habits with your dog, you should train them when they are young to walk with you at your pace and not pull.  If you use a leash or leather dog lead, to avoid chewing, spray it with some vinegar; puppies won’t like the smell and will avoid it.  To prevent your puppy from drifting all over and incessantly smelling objects along the sidewalk, keep a taut leash at your side and gently pull them back when they start to move.

Over time these practices will help your dog learn to walk with you and you can even go without a leash.

Dog-Booster-Seat

Whenever you take your dog in the car, you might worry about what could happen in an unthinkable auto accident.  Especially with dogs roaming around the car or sitting in a chair with nothing to hold them back from hitting a dashboard or even window, it’s a scary thought.  There are a few things you can do to prevent potential harm from your dog.  When possible, you should try to keep your dog secluded to one area of the car, usually the back, this way during an accident your pet wouldn’t be moving around a lot.  You might also consider a car harness or a dog booster seat.

Car harnesses and booster seats work much the same as they would for a child; they secure the dog in a safe position, and during an accident, ensure the same safety afforded a person by a seatbelt.

The discriminating dogs “must have”, is a 1 1/2 wide collar with 5 rows of bright rhinestones.  A collar made with two layers of very pliable, durable vinyl.  The underside that is next to your dogs skin is soft and almost suede like.  Rhinestones collars and leads adds to the class and the appearance of a well groomed dog.  This type collar makes your dog stand out among other dogs and is a great conservation starter.

A riveted collar with metal fittings make the rhinestone collar durable and long lasting.  This quality collar that is stitched and not glued will not fray even with the roughest of dogs.

A pet should never be left unattended in a parked car when the outside temperature is over 70 degrees.  A parked car quickly becomes unbearably hot inside within minutes, even with the windows left slightly open.  In just 10 minutes the temperature inside your car can reach 102 degrees or hotter.  At 110 degrees your pet may have just minutes to live.  Your pet will suffer heatstroke, leading to collapse, brain damage and an agonizing death.  Leave your pet at home if the possibility exist that you may have to leave your dog in your car, use a dog sling carrier and take your pet with you.

Should your pet become overheated you should take emergency action.  Put your pet into cold water or give a cold water rubdown immediately to lower body temperature.  Take your pet to a veterinarian for a thorough examination.
