A Toy and Companion

My dog, Daisy, had a favorite toy practically from the day we brought her home from the breeder: her plush hedgehog squeaky toy. As a five-week-old Beagle, the hedgehog was almost bigger than Daisy was! As she grew, eventually becoming much bigger than the hedgehog, Daisy loved chewing on the hedgehog and squeaking the squeaker, but we also often found her snuggling with it. I ended up called the toy “Friend” because he was her best friend!

Of course, Friend eventually became disgusting and needed to be replaced. Daisy did a great job of tearing Friend apart – not very friendly, right? – and his squeaker wouldn’t squeak anymore. I was also worried about Daisy swallowing some of his fluff, or even the squeaker itself, so Friend went into the garbage. I immediately went to several pet stores that sold plush dog toys to track down another Friend for her. I finally found one, and Daisy was so happy to be reunited with him!

Keeping Dogs Warm and Dry

Dogs’ natural coats usually protect them pretty well, but years of living indoors may have made them dislike the elements. No dog likes to have to do his business or take a walk in the pour rain. Just like humans, dogs can be cold and uncomfortable when they get wet, and they would like nothing more to dry off and be warm again. Why not prevent them from getting cold and wet in the first place?

A waterproof dog jacket can help protect your dog from unpleasant rain and snow. Look for one that easily slides onto your dog and secures with buckles, buttons or Velcro. As the summer winds down and autumn rains loom, your dog will need a jacket more than ever. It also helps you a lot, too – no more wet dog smell or your dog shaking his wet coat out all over your house!
